bagChristine got me the laptop bag (which I've been bugging her about ever since the MacBook Pro arrived) for an anniversary present, unfortunately, FedEx had other plans and has somehow misplaced my bag! It was scheduled for delivery yesterday, so with eager anticipation I kept checking the online tracking status and our front door alternately with hopes of finding it there. The day passed disappointingly without any sign of the package, so it was a big surprise when I logged on to the tracking site to find a notation that the item has been delivered at 10:05 PM (yesterday evening) and was left at our front door without requiring a signature (or even a knock on our door). But contrary to what FedEx says, there wasn't any package left at our front door, or anywhere for that matter. WTF?!? Did someone just steal my stuff or was the delivery guy fibbing and dropped my package somewhere else? So after a quick email to Pivot Gear, I received a reply that they will check with FedEx and find out what exactly happened. They were apologetic of course, but that only means more waiting until they sort this out. This just sucks, really.

Update from Pivot Gear:
Hey Luis,

I spoke with FedEx and they are contacting their driver for more information. They said it they will have more information within 24 hours. [sic]

That said, we are going to send a replacement out to you (unfortunately it will ship tomorrow since FedEx already picked up today). If the original shipment arrives, please let us know.

Again, sorry for the hassle.

Jeff

I'm sure glad I went with these guys to purchase my gear. Not only do they have competitive pricing along with an excellent variety of bags, more importantly, they are quick to respond and resolve customer issues. I only wish I could say the same for FedEx's lackluster service, if you could even call it that.

It never fails. Regardless of how terribly hot it gets here in Vegas during the month of May (we were in the middle of an early heat wave), the sun seems to always give us a break when the twenty-second comes around year after year. It reminds me of that scene from the movie The L.A. Story wherein nature changes it's course to intervene. Anyway, ours is less dramatic than that, but I always like to think that all this nice weather shift is happening because it's our wedding anniversary. And this year seems to be no different, out of the blue, the weather breaks from the three-digit mark and provides us a glimpse of what a perfect day is like in Vegas, and it's a long weekend to boot! Happy 4th Anniversary Christine — the days only look to be brighter with you by my side.

Butter and sour cream held together with a little bit of potato — the perfect recipe for mashed potatoes in my opinion. Ah, my stomach grumbles at just the very thought of having some later this evening. So anyway, we're on the move again (and in the process escaping the three-digit scorcher predicted for Las Vegas) this weekend for a nice drive out to California, Orange County to be precise. Until then, have a lovely and eventful weekend everyone!

It may be old news to most, but SynergyKM is by far the best GUI wrapper around the synergy command tool that "lets you easily share a single mouse and keyboard between multiple computers with different operating systems without special hardware". I know there are other alternatives such as QuickSynergy and Abyssoft's Teleport, but in my own experience SynergyKM still offers the easiest setup requirements.

So here it is folks (see photo below), my current ideal work set-up: my MacBook Pro on the left, the Mac Mini in the center (being the host controller), and the PC (running XP) on the right all controlled by just one set of keyboard and mouse. And for those saying that SynergyKM doesn't work on a Mac-to-Mac running Leopard (10.5.2), here's proof that it does! My configuration included using an IP address instead of the host name (ie. MyMac.local) to connect to the main machine, and also turning off "Enable client checks" from the Server Options panel. For some reason, when that option was on, the connection just kept switching between the on and off states causing my MacBook Pro's cursor to just quiver in one spot!

PS. I think this rig's got me beat! Ulp!

I like watching the Food Network, with Iron Chef, Good Eats, Nigela Express, Tyler's Ultimate and Everyday Italian being some of my favourite shows. Infact, me and my wife like it so much that we fall asleep and wake up to it! But alas, after a cowerk of mine shared this link and this here link, things will never be the same again...

I was just browsing thru my old bookmark archive when I stumbled onto this. Ah yes, the good ol' Apple days... I missed it so much that it inspired me to redraw the entire thing in Illustrator and create an alternate icon for Safari, which in my humble opinion, should have been called Cyberdog just to keep the memories alive.

Apple's Cyberdog

You can download a copy of the icon here (Leopard-ready of course).

Usually, when I encounter a job attached to a client who is very uncompromising adamant particular about every single aspect of the design process, a little voice inside my head would tell me to slowly start backing away and then run for the hills. Alas, it seems that I either fail to listen to myself or I have awfully slow reaction times...
